For sheer convenience we understand that walking to work isn’t always as practical as it sounds – especially if you’re prone to snoozing your alarm multiple times!

Although did you know that you are likely to burn 100 calories per mile* when walking?
We know…sounds too good to be true.

As part of National Walking Month, we challenge you to take part in National Walk to Work Week taking place from 11th – 15th May. This is a great opportunity to improve your health and well-being by including walking as part of your daily commute.

Most of us are familiar with the phrase ‘work-life balance’, however not all of us stick to it. The idea of this concept is to allot time to both work related tasks and lifestyle oriented tasks. Increased physical activity will help with your well-being so walking to work can have an impact on both your work life and life outside of work.

For employees, embarking on some form of exercise can play a key part in encouraging performance and activity within the workplace. You’ll also feel energised and refreshed once you return to your desk – ready to take on the rest of your workload. For employers an active workforce reduces absences as well as employee sickness.

If you’re still not convinced, take a look at some of the other benefits of walking to work:

  • Save money by reducing travel fares
  • Enjoy great health benefits
  • Reduce your carbon footprint
  • Gives you time to wake up and arrive at the office bright – eyed and bushy tailed
  • Get those creative juices flowing and bring all your dormant thoughts and ideas into action.

Why not engage in some light hearted competition, grab a pedometer and have a ‘walk-off’ with some of your colleagues. See who completes the most steps by the end of the week.
