In today’s increasingly competitive marketplace, it’s important for companies to create an effective brand identity that runs consistently throughout the organisation. This makes the company instantly recognisable and provides consumers with a sense of trust.

Many companies provide their employees with uniforms because it displays professionalism and, if they are designed correctly, can help grow brand identity and contribute to the overall success of the business. So, let’s take a look at other ways in which company uniforms can influence business growth.

A study carried out by Weintraub Associates has found:

75% of consumers prefer employees in uniform

97% of the public believes uniforms make your employees easier to recognise

70% of your customers think uniforms make your employees look neater and more professional

60% of your prospects feel that uniforms make your workers look better trained

(Weintraub Associates, National Management Firm, 2008)

Using uniforms as an advertising tool

Research carried out by Ashwini K. Poojary, (Sawyer Business School, Suffolk University, Boston, February 2011) has found that increasing the knowledge of customers about the brand through effective marketing initiatives helps companies develop a positive image. It also helps influence the purchase activity of a customer, which, in effect, can increase your company sales.

Ashwini K. Poojary’s research proves that wearing business uniforms are more effective than several other popular forms of advertising:

“Based upon our literature review, we predicted that uniforms would prove to be a more effective marketing tool than several popular forms of advertising, and for all industries surveyed taken in aggregate this proved to be true.” Ashwini K. Poojary

56.1% of respondents stated uniforms are more effective than internet advertising.

73.5% of respondents stated uniforms are more effective than TV advertising.

74.4% of respondents stated uniforms are more effective than radio advertising.

75.7% of respondents stated uniforms are more effective than billboard advertising.

55% of respondents stated uniforms are more effective than yellow pages (printed) advertising.

71.5% of respondents stated uniforms are more effective than newspaper advertising.

Designing the perfect uniform

Uniforms don’t have to be complicated to look impressive. Sometimes the simplest design can prove to be extremely effective. As well as having a uniform that looks appealing, it must be practical and your employees should feel comfortable wearing their uniforms during working hours.  A well fitted, stylish uniform can boost the confidence of your workforce.

It is always a good idea to keep your staff involved in the early stages of the design process to ensure you end up with a more desirable uniform which your staff will want to wear every day. This helps to improve morale and performance which, in turn, helps business growth.

Designing a stylish, comfortable and fitted uniform could be the difference between happy and unhappy staff

Team Spirit

Uniforms provide a sense of pride and boosts team spirit. This influences job satisfaction and encourages employees to take more pride and responsibility in their work. Team spirit can help people work well together, and a happy team usually means a more productive team.

A positive brand attitude

“Brand identity helps in reaching out to customers, helps the company stand out from the competition, and conveys business stability.” (Keller and Lehmann)

By introducing uniforms branded with a company logo, and applying colour schemes that are aligned with your business branding, you can further increase your brand identity and become more recognisable within your industry.

“Colour is registered by the brain before either images or typography. Colour increases brand recognition by up to 80%.” (University of Loyla, Maryland study)

If your brand identity is consistent and clear, consumers will naturally put their trust into your products and services, which in time will further grow your business and reputation.
