Who is Bluestone Resort?
Bluestone National Park Resort is an all-weather luxury short break destination. The resort falls partly within the boundaries of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Since opening in 2008, Bluestone National Park Resort has quickly grown to be one of the largest private sector employers in Wales. With a workforce of over 700, further expansion will take staff numbers to 1,000 in 2020, with 90 per cent of the current workforce living within a 30 mile radius of the resort.
With luxury lodges and cottages in 500-acres and over 100 activities to choose, from high ropes and zip wires through ancient woodland, to bug hunts and nature craft sessions, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The state of the art Serendome and indoor Adventure Centre ensures that rain doesn’t stop play time, with multiple play areas, a giant sandpit, mini golf course and lots more.
Bluestone went to tender for a new supplier of its workwear as the existing uniforms didn’t fully represent their brand. Bluestone owns all the retail stores and restaurants, bars, cafes and shops on the site. This has resulted overtime each department developing a different look and feel leading to inconsistent branding across departments. The challenge was to ensure these departments continued to look different but still ensuring that they all reflected the same Bluestone family brand.
Prior to OfficeTeam putting forward our solution two members of our workwear team stayed at the resort for two days and visited all the different departments, including reception areas, restaurants, cafes, bars, security and indoor and outdoor activities within the resort. They talked to staff to gain a better understanding of what their roles entailed and establishing their views on what they thought their uniforms should look like. There after design boards were created based upon their research and reflecting the aspirations that the resort had for its brand.
The design boards were presented to Bluestone and a fashion show was arranged with key stakeholders. Following the fashion show the collections were confirmed and a wearer trial commenced ensuring all staff were happy and comfortable in the new look uniforms.
OfficeTeam then started the rollout process for the new uniform across the 700 Bluestone employees. To ensure the roll-out ran smoothly for all staff we split employees into three categories, customer facing, activities staff, and housekeeping.
Due to the various shapes and sizes of staff, Bluestone purchased sizing sets to ensure all staff were measured correctly. This information was collated and the appropriate uniforms produced, with additional embellishments and then man packed for each member of staff individually.
This project was only achievable through the collaboration and partnership of OfficeTeam and Bluestone. Together we have delivered a high quality uniform that is suitable for individual roles and staff are proud to wear and reflects the quality of the Bluestone brand.
We have highly valued the time OfficeTeam have taken to understand Bluestone as a business and our unique brand. Gaining a full understanding of our brand allowed OfficeTeam to bring to the table a range of uniforms which reflected our rural surroundings as well as our open and friendly culture. Bringing in a new style of uniform to suit every element of our day to day business has been an enormous undertaking; particularly in a business as diverse as ours. From guest services to security, activities, food & beverage and maintenance teams among many more, a one size fits all approach would never have worked for us. Rolling out such a high quality new uniform to over 700 employees has been a considerable investment in our people but we have also learnt there is an emotional element to this journey – get it wrong and we risk our people not feeling heard or valued. OfficeTeam has been there every step of the way supporting us in our endeavour to provide our team with a uniform that is comfortable, as well as practical and underpinning it all, we are proud to wear and identify ourselves as Bluestone employees. And our guests love it too!
