Company overview

Paddy Power was founded in 1988, by the merger of the forty shops of three Irish bookmakers: Stewart Kenny, David Power, and John Corcoran. The Power name was considered the strongest brand among the merged shops, while the “Paddy” name and green colouring emphasised the chain’s Irishness at a time when the fragmented Irish industry was facing competition from British betting chains entering the market in response to changes in the Irish tax code.

In 2016 it merged with Betfair to create Paddy Power Betfair and now has 350 stores in the Uk and 270 in Ireland as well as a strong online presence.

The challenge

In 2016 Paddy Power undertook a review of its Irish operations with the aim of making savings within their logistics, warehousing and stock control. OfficeTeam who had been working with Paddy Power for 15 years within the UK consolidating many of their workplace supplies and had developed a mature beneficial relationship, commenced discussions with Paddy Power to find a solution to the issues Paddy Power faced in Ireland. Key though for OfficeTeam was to not compromise the quality of service we were already offering Paddy Power within the UK.

The solution

Our sister company Spicers already has a successful Irish business with warehousing / distribution facilities in Dublin. We were confident that we could replicate the fantastic work we were providing Paddy Power in the UK and develop a successful Irish business without compromising our UK operations.

Our solution provided Paddy Power a complete service. Taking responsibility for all of their deliveries, stock control and storage for all stationery and print collateral, allowing Paddy Power to close down their Irish warehouse resulting in significant savings.

The outcome

Within 10 weeks our operation was up and running. Providing a service to all 270 of Paddy Power’s Irish Stores. All stock had been transferred into our distribution centre, and we had established an online ordering solution that all stores could use and now provided Paddy Power with in depth Management Information. This gave Paddy Power spending and budget controls they had never had with their in-house operations.

Our relationship developed further once Paddy Power could see the benefits and cost savings our solution offered. Extending the range of products to include bespoke marketing collateral, and have just added workwear to our portfolio to the whole of Paddy Power’s Irish estate and are looking at further areas of consolidation.

We would not have suggested taking on Paddy Power’s Irish operations if we had thought it would have had a negative impact upon the great work we were already providing them in the UK. From the success of Paddy Power’s Irish contract we have now developed a thriving business, OfficeTeam Ireland, with a wide and diverse client base across the whole of Ireland.
